International Centre for Landscape and Language

The International Centre for Landscape and Language (ICLL) gives prominence to, and brings together, the significant expertise at Edith Cowan University combined with national and international collaborative partners. The priority for the Centre is to promote research, teaching, scholarship and creative activity in all aspects of the interrelationship between landscape and language. The latter describes all communicative forms, verbal and non-verbal.

The ICLL publishes an e-journal as well as other publications and distributes a monthly newsletter. It organises colloquia and conferences on the theme of landscape, such as the international conference On the Beach in 2004. Another major conference is planned for 2010 on the theme of water. A significant innovation are the W.I.L.D. courses (Writing in Landscapes Down-under), which provided two field-based study units for international students during the mid-year break. The W.I.L.D. courses are currently under re-development.

The executive of the Centre is currently made up of the director, Glen Phillips, and principals Andrew Taylor, John Kinsella and Hugo Bekle. The operations of the Centre are supported by the ICLL Advisory Panel.
